Laser-Driven Sun-Like Full-Spectrum Lighting for High-Fidelity Bright Illumination via Spectrally Engineered Color Converters

Phosphor-converted white light sources (PCWLSs) offer sustainable and efficient high-power lighting solutions, enabling stable, sunlike full-spectrum (SFS) emission across the visible range. This work demonstrates a significant advancement in PCWLS, focusing on achieving SFS with high color fidelity. Utilizing a strategic blend of developed far-red (LiGa0.997TiO4:0.3%Cr3+) and commercially available cyan/red (Mz(Si, O)xNy:Eu2+) and green/yellow ((Y, Gd, Lu, Ce)3(Ga, Al)5O12:Ce3+) phosphors for down-conversion. By optimizing the phosphor blend ratio, we achieved high-quality PCWLS with a high color rendering index (CRI Ra ∼ 98), deep red (R9 ∼ 88), and deep blue (R12 ∼ 70) along with correlated color temperatures (CCT ∼ 2500–6500K). With its wide range of achievable color temperatures, this PCWLS effectively mimics natural daylight, making it suitable for applications that demand accurate color representation, particularly in endoscopic settings. CRI points (R1-R15) value ≥95, with exceptions for R9 and R12. The source also delivers an illuminance of ∼1000klx at 20 mm (luminous flux >1klm). The PCWLS was successfully integrated into endoscopic illumination and general illumination, producing high-quality color images. This multiphosphor approach overcomes limitations of traditional PCWLS, particularly in cyan and red color rendering and overall color quality. The developed PCWLS demonstrates applications including medical surgery, photography, exhibitions, retail, defense, horticulture, and broadcasting.
