Comment on “Developing a linear fluid plasma model with accurate kinetic Bernstein waves: A first step” [Phys. Plasmas 32 , 082110 (2025)]
In Ref. 1, the author gives a first step to develop an accurate fluid model for the linear theory of kinetic Bernstein waves. The main results claimed in Ref. 1 are the various approximations to the special functions that appear in the dispersion relation.Reference 2 presents a simple fluid theory that fully describes the classical kinetic modes, including the Bernstein mode, loss cone instability, and the Harris dispersion relation. An intuitive interpretation in terms of Newton's force law, extensions to a nonuniform plasma, relation to the energy principle, and quasilinear theory of kinetic modes are also addressed in Ref. 2.
