PATHOGENITIC ASPECTS OF CHRONIC MIGRAINE: ROLE OF OXIDANT STRESS AND CYTOKINE IMBALANCE

The review provides data on the role of oxidative stress and cytokine imbalance in the pathogenesis of chronic migraine. The literature search was carried out from 2000 to 2023 on the Pubmed, Springer, eLIBRARY websites in Russian and English. The purpose of the review was to summarize the available information about the significance of oxidative stress and cytokine imbalance in the pathogenesis of chronic migraine. Scientific data in recent years convincingly prove that, from a molecular point of view, systemic oxidative stress and cytokine imbalance play a critical role in this process, which can be explained by their fundamental role in the formation of central sensitization, a key pathophysiological mechanism in the development, maintenance and progression of chronic migraine. The data presented above suggest that oxidative homeostasis and cytokine imbalance may serve as potential therapeutic targets in chronic migraine.
