Alopecia areata: not always a ‘problem to be fixed’

Alopecia areata can be hugely challenging. However, patients can and do live fulfilling lives with alopecia. While new treatments are promising they carry uncertain long-term risks and need to be considered carefully. This young patient has kindly shared his personal perspective and growth to acceptance and empowerment. We are keen to share this with dermatologists managing young people, question the medicalization of alopecia and help improve guidance going forward.
