An outburst of the Andromedid meteor shower on 2021 November 28
Abstract We studied an outburst of the Andromedid meteor shower on 2021 November 28, by detecting meteors from a live-streaming video camera on the Subaru Telescope site at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii Island. We detected 148 Andromedid meteors and 202 non-Andromedid meteors in a 6 h observation from 05:00 to 11:00 UT. From our observations, there was a peak of activity from 06:00 to 07:00 UT. The average magnitude of the Andromedid meteors was +3.9, and many of them were faint. The radiant was concentrated in a compact area. We point out that this outburst may be due to an encounter with a dust trail caused by dust ejected from comet 3D/Biela in 1655.
