Enhanced OFDR strain demodulation method based on optimized nearest neighbor sliding window threshold

We propose a demodulation method based on optimized nearest neighbor sliding window thresholds, which dynamically removes noise peaks to enhance the accuracy and reliability of cross-correlation demodulation in wide-strain measurements. Compared to traditional methods, the optimized method significantly improves demodulation accuracy and robustness, achieving a high spatial resolution of 2.48 mm and a wide strain range of 10,000 µε at the end of a 17 m sensing fiber. The method is computationally efficient and maintains high spatial resolution without compromising demodulation speed. Its formidable versatility and scalability will propel the advancement of high-performance distributed fibre optic sensing technology, offering a viable solution to the critical challenge of measuring strain across a large dynamic range.
