Biocompatible ultrafast thiol-acetalization enabled by triaryl carbenium ion-pair

A highly efficient, metal-free protocol has been developed for the ultrafast thiol-acetalization of aldehydes and ketones with thiols in water, catalyzed by a triaryl carbenium ion-pair under biocompatible conditions.
