FY2025 Development Status of DRCS: ISS Demonstration of JAXA’s CO2 Removal System
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is developing a carbon dioxide (CO2) removal system to strengthen core life-support technologies for future crewed space missions. An on-orbit technology demonstration of the CO₂ removal system (DRCS) on the International Space Station (ISS) is being developed before a practical system for the Gateway International Habitable Module (I-HAB) is developed. The demonstrator for the ISS is scheduled to be launched in autumn 2025. This paper describes the status of the development of the DRCS and the results of performance tests of it with variable CO2 concentration changes over time as if it were on the ISS.
