Towards a deep epistemology: knowing in historical and cross-cultural context
This article makes the case for a deep epistemology, an epistemology rooted in the epistemic experiences and philosophical debates from across the full range of historical periods and global cultures, with fine-grained sensitivity to the actual linguistic terms and constructions used in expressing them. It thereby provides the framework for this special issue as a whole, not only motivating and introducing the articles that follow, but also engaging with them in the context of recent debate about epistemology and its history.
