Impact of the Apolipoprotein E ε4 Allele on Cognition and Omega-3 Fatty Acid Levels in the Plasma Membrane of Red Blood Cells in Healthy Elderly Japanese Population
These findings suggest a possible association between the APOE4 allele and reduced erythrocyte EPA and DHA levels, even in healthy elderly Japanese individuals with high ω-3 fatty acid intake. Such alterations in lipid metabolism may be linked to cognitive vulnerability in older adults and individuals with MCI.
