Ion‐Based Shear Thickening Liquid Reinforced Aramid Puncture‐Resistant Composites With Highly Sensitive Sensing Properties

ABSTRACT In this paper, puncture‐resistant composite fabrics (ILSA and CILSA) are prepared by combining ionic‐based shear thickening fluids (ILSTF and CILSTF) with aramid fabrics through the method of impregnation. Ionic‐based shear thickening fluids significantly enhance the frictional performance between the yarns of the fabric. The maximum friction between the yarns in the composite material is 6.56 times that between the yarns in pure fabric at a pull‐out speed of 150 mm/min. The composite materials not only have excellent puncture‐resistant performance but also have sensitive sensing performance. The optimal ILSA knife‐head puncture force increased by 2.15 times and spike‐head puncture force increased by 6.32 times compared to the pure fabric. Moreover, CILSA can not only accurately respond to stress changes ranging from small to large, but also to changes in the bending state of materials, featuring excellent sensitivity and stability. These characteristics indicate broad application prospects of this material in smart textiles and protective equipment, where adaptive response to mechanical stimuli is crucial.
