Multiple Brønsted acidic sites in nitrogen-rich dicyandiamide immobilized on silica gel as a heterogeneous catalyst for efficient conversion of fructose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural

A nitrogen-rich acidic catalyst was synthesized to improve fructose dehydration to HMF. It showed high activity, yielding 95.2% HMF in DMSO, and demonstrated good reusability and scalability for potential industrial use.
