Morphometric Analysis of the Distal End of the Radius: Implications for Clinical and Anatomical Applications
Abstract The distal end of the radius is a critical anatomical structure that plays a pivotal role in wrist biomechanics, load transmission, and articulation with the carpal bones. Despite its clinical significance, there is a paucity of updated morphometric data, particularly in diverse populations. This study aims to provide a detailed morphometric analysis of the distal radius, focusing on key parameters such as radial inclination, volar tilt, and radial height. Fifty dry human radii (25 left and 25 right) were analyzed using Vernier calipers and goniometers, with specific anatomical landmarks defined to ensure measurement reliability. The results, presented in tabular format, reveal consistent morphometric patterns with slight variations that may reflect population-specific differences. These findings have significant implications for clinical applications, including fracture management, prosthetic design, and surgical planning. This study contributes to the anatomical literature by providing updated and region-specific morphometric data for the distal radius.
