Advanced magnetic-integrated multi-trap LCL filter to suppress harmonics in avionics systems

Avionics systems rely heavily on high-frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) technology for efficient power conversion. However, PWM-generated harmonics cause significant electromagnetic interference (EMI), degrading system stability, reliability, and operational efficiency. TraditionalLCLfilters, while effective at lower frequencies, become inefficient and bulky when addressing high-frequency harmonics in aerospace environments. The switching harmonics are suppressed using multi-trap filters. As a result, even if the output filter components are larger, the overall inductance and filter size may be lowered. On the other hand, trap inductors need more magnetic cores than traditionalLCLfilters. Thus, this research presents an advanced magnetic-integrated multi-trapLCLfilter specifically optimized for avionics applications, working under weak network conditions, utilizing the mutual integration of the inductors, to achieve superior harmonic suppression while maintaining compactness and lightweight characteristics. This paper investigates how to build the magnetic integrated high-orderTTLfilter, with twoLC-traps utilizing the mutual inductance to obtain good harmonics mitigation and reduction of the size, because of its compact architecture and superior harmonic attenuation performance. Upon the simulation results, this research will contribute to the advancement of avionics power electronics by providing an efficient solution for harmonic suppression, improving system reliability, and enabling broader applications in aerospace power systems.
