Research of tunable plasma FSS using different classes of cell elements via equivalent circuit model
The tunability of traditional frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) is inconvenient using metal-patch or slotted-patch as periodic elements, utilizing genetic algorithms to model FSS layers obtaining desired filtering electromagnetic waves effect. However, plasma FSSs offer the possibility of improved shielding effect along with reconfigurability by just tuning the plasma density and collision frequency, made transparent by tuning the plasma off. A ring cell elements are proposed synthesizing plasma FSS. The technique for calculating lumped parameters of lumped-LC-network counterpart are introduced, with the performance of the proposed equivalent circuit model evaluated by comparing with the commercial software CST Microwave Studio using full-wave analysis method. The results prove the effectiveness of the equivalent circuit model. In a word, this paper aims at providing an equivalent circuit analysis method and elementary models for plasma FSS to further research the more complex plasma FSS structure.
