Préparation, Evaluation of Biological Activity and Antioxidant Propretés for (Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd) Complexes with Mixed Ligand from Schiff Base and Curcumin.

Base and Curcumin. Abstract. Five mixed ligand complexes were prepared from curcumin and Schiff base derived from (sulfonic acid with pyridine-4-carbaldehyde) by reacting them with some binary metal salts (Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd). The Schiff base ligand and the complexes were characterized using spectroscopic and analytical methods including (CHNS, TGA, 13C, 1H-NMR, UV-Vis, FT-IR), and the measurement of chlorine content and atomic absorption of the elements. The molar conductivities showed the absence of ionic nature, and the magnetic sensitivity gave the general formula of the complexes [M(L)(curcu)(H2O)2] and proposed octahedral geometries, while the copper complex showed distorted octahedral shape. Biological studies were conducted against two types of bacteria, positive and negative strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, using curcumin as a standard antibiotic. When it came to bacteria, the complexes performed better than the curcumin that was used in the free Schiff base. An analysis of the complexes' total antioxidant content revealed that they were more active antioxidants than curcumin
