Economic Study on the Water Footprint and Virtual Water Trade of the Mmost Important Strategic Crops in Egypt

In view of the current situation and studying the water crisis that Egypt is going through with the Nile Basin countries around the Ethiopian dam, it shows the importance of developing new concepts to rationalize water consumption as the concepts of the water footprint and virtual water trade of rice and wheat as the most important Cereal crops and potato as one of the most important vegetable and orange as one of the most important fruit crops during the period (2000-2016).The research relied on secondary data, and the use of both descriptive and quantitative economic analysis methods through the use of general time trend equations, the water footprint estimation model and its indicators. The most important results were the positive impact of irrigated agricultural policy for the rice crop, it was found that there is a deficiency in irrigated agricultural policy for wheat, by studying the development of the water footprint per capita of the orange crop, it shows the positive impact of the irrigated agricultural policy of the orange crop, and work must be done to increase the efficiency of water use for this crop, and by studying the development of the footprint Water per capita from the potato crop shows deficiencies in the irrigated agricultural policy of the potato crop, and work must be done to increase the water use efficiency of this crop, by studying the development of losses in the virtual waters of the study crops result of the physical loss during the different marketing stages, it turned out that it took an increasing general trend, statistically, at a rate of about 6.7%, 19.2%, 6.5%, and 11.4%, respectively, during the study period, so it must be taken into account This waste when irrigating agricultural policies for those crops in order to reduce it as one of the hubs for rationalizing water use.
