Cassiterite Mineral: Occurrence, Properties, and the Main Tin Deposits in Egypt with emphasis on Abou Dabbab area.
Cassiterite, a valuable tin oxide mineral renowned for its economic significance and various applications. It is usually associated with rare elements present in most of the orogenic belts around the globe. It occurs in magmatic resources, placer deposits and gneiss. Most of the world’s cassiterite is produced from secondary, placer deposits. Usually, sediments occurring in stream valleys and along the shorelines, host concentrations of cassiterite. It is usually associated with granitic inclusions among the old Precambrian basement formations affected by the hydrothermal percolations. In Egypt cassiterite was recorded in 14 major deposits in granite inclusions among the ANS occurring in the Eastern Desert Province. The present article highlights cassiterite's geological occurrence with respect to the ANS formation, properties, and uses. Special emphasis is given to Abou Dabbab greisen deposits skarns and quartz veins for its unique characteristics and potential, shedding light on their contribution to the mineral industry of the country.
