Analysis of Gravity Field Behavior in Major Oil Field Regions

A well-defined and accurate gravity field is critically important—not only from an academic standpoint but also for its significant economic implications. Gravity data plays a vital role in resource exploration, particularly in the mining, oil, and gas industries. Today, oil and gas remain crucial global energy resources, deeply influencing economies, geopolitical strategies, and even conflicts between nations. Recent advancements have made global gravity field models with reasonable accuracy and resolution widely accessible, thanks to satellite missions and integrated satellite-terrestrial datasets. As a result, gravity field information is now available for virtually every location on Earth. Variations in the Earth's surface gravity field reflect underlying geological structures, including those found in the Earth’s crust. This research utilizes modern global gravity models to analyze gravity behavior in major oil field regions. Conventional exploration methods, such as seismic surveys, are often costly and may lack sufficient coverage during early-stage exploration. These limitations make it challenging to accurately identify promising areas for oil concessions or locate key oil indicators. The primary objective of this study is to investigate gravity field characteristics in areas with known oil wells. This approach has the potential to provide a cost-effective tool for identifying viable exploration targets during the reconnaissance phase.
