Assessment of Antibacterial Efficacy of Different Obturating Materials for Primary Teeth
Purpose: The present vitro study to assess antimicrobial efficacy of Zinc oxide /Eugenol, Calpex, Endoflas and modified triple antibiotic as obturating material for primary teeth. Materials and methods: The antibacterial capability was assessed using the agar diffusion technique by measuring the inhibition zone surrounding each tested obturating substance against particular bacterial strains; Enterococcus faecalis with Escherichia coli. Group I: Calpex paste, Group II: Endoflas, Group III: Modified triple antibiotic paste (MTAP), and IV Zinc oxide powder and eugenol. Results: regarding Enterococcus Faecalis Inhibition zone, The highest mean value was recorded in Modified triple antibiotic paste, followed by Calcium hydroxide and iodoform (Calpex), then Endoflas group; with the least mean value recorded in Zinc oxide/Eugenol. E. coli Inhibition zone, The highest mean value was recorded in Modified triple antibiotic paste, followed by Endoflas, then Calcium hydroxide and iodoform (Calpex) group; with the least mean value recorded in Zinc oxide/Eugenol. Conclusion: that all four obturating materials have antibacterial effects against to Enterococcus Faecalis and E. coli development, however MTAP had the strongest antimicrobial potential, followed by Endoflas, Calpex, and finally ZOE.
