Interleukin-17 Levels in Gingival Crevicular Fluid of Stage III and IV Grade C Periodontitis Patients
Objective: To measure IL-17 levels in Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) from periodontitis subjects (grade C) in stages III and IV and see whether there was an association with disease severity. Methods: The research included sixty people, all between the ages of 20 and 40, from the Faculty of Dentistry at Zagazig University. The subjects were divided into three categories: those with stage IV Periodontitis, those with stage III Periodontitis, and a group of healthy individuals serving as controls. Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) samples were collected for IL-17 measurement via ELISA, and clinical parameters were documented to evaluate disease severity. The correlation between GCF IL-17 levels and the severity of periodontal disease was investigated statistically. Results: Stage IV periodontitis persons reported the highest increase in IL-17 levels than controls. There was a statistically significant relationship between IL-17 levels and illness severity. Conclusion: This study found significantly elevated IL-17 levels and correlations with severity in stage III and IV Grade C periodontitis patients versus controls. Nevertheless, inconsistent literature on IL-17's role in periodontitis underscores need for additional research to clarify relationships and address outstanding questions.
