Abstract 79: Profile of Hospital Admissions for Lymphoid Leukemia in the SUS (2020–2024): Analysis of Leukemia- Associated Hospitalizations, Focusing on Regional Distribution, Gender, and Age

Abstract Purpose: Lymphoid leukemia is a hematologic neoplasm with high incidence in both young and elderly populations, representing a significant public health challenge in Brazil. This study aims to describe the profile of hospitalizations for lymphoid leukemia in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) between 2020 and 2024, analyzing the distribution by gender, age, and regions of the country. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, retrospective study based on data from DATASUS (Tabnet). Data on hospitalizations classified as lymphoid leukemia were extracted, considering distribution by regions (North, Northeast, Southeast, South, and Central-West), gender (male and female), and specific age groups. The analysis covered the period from 2020 to 2024. Results: A total of 15,728 hospitalizations for lymphoid leukemia were recorded in the SUS during the study period. The Southeast region accounted for the highest number of hospitalizations (6,310; 40.1%), followed by the South (2,881; 18.3%) and Northeast (3,543; 22.5%) regions. Regarding gender, cases were predominantly male (9,014; 57.3%) compared to female (6,714; 42.7%). In terms of age groups, the highest proportion of hospitalizations occurred in individuals aged up to 19 years (6,860; 43.6%), followed by the elderly over 65 years (3,535; 22.5%). Conclusion: The results reveal a well-defined regional, age, and gender pattern of hospitalizations for lymphoid leukemia in Brazil. The Southeast region accounted for the highest number of cases, highlighting the importance of investigating potential inequalities in access to health services and early diagnosis across different regions. Additionally, the predominance of male hospitalizations suggests potential differences in biological factors or access to the healthcare system between genders. Furthermore, the vulnerability of young and elderly individuals to the diagnosis and treatment of this neoplasm underscores the need for public policies targeting these populations. These findings are crucial for guiding prevention strategies, early diagnosis, and adequate treatment, with a focus on regional and gender equity.
