Intriguing metal–ligand interplays leading to diverse Al–H–M (M = Mg, Ca) heterobimetallic hydrides based on a picolyl-based 3N ligand
We report here heterobimetallic 'Al-H-M' (M = Mg, Ca) hydrides based on a chemically non-innocent picolyl-derived ethylenediamine ligand. The two alkaline earths yield similar intermediates but ultimately different endings. Intriguing metal-ligand interplays are suggested and also supported by DFT analysis in the Ca case.
