Stress path‐dependent analysis‐oriented model for <scp>FRP</scp> ‐confined concrete based on equivalent lateral stress

Abstract The dependence on stress path has been extensively adopted to develop analysis‐oriented models for FRP‐confined concrete. However, these models are modified by regression methods for actively confined concrete models without elucidating the impact mechanism of the stress paths. This article investigates the boundedness of stress path impact on the compressive strength of FRP‐confined concrete and the equivalent lateral stress is presented on this basis. The impact boundary index μ was determined to be 0.33, derived from the test results of 36 FRP‐confined concrete columns subjected to axial compression. In this manner, the stress path impact on the mechanical behavior of FRP‐confined concrete can be analyzed using both theoretical and experimental methods. Furthermore, a simplified stress path‐dependent stress–strain model for FRP‐confined concrete was developed, utilizing the equivalent lateral stress as a foundation. The predicted stress–strain curves were compared with measured test results from both the authors' and other researchers' studies, to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed model.

Abstract

Abstract The dependence on stress path has been extensively adopted to develop analysis‐oriented models for FRP‐confined concrete. However, these models are modified by regression methods for actively confined concrete models without elucidating the impact mechanism of the stress paths.
