TENG Power Management Strategy Based on Adaptive Peak Tracking and Gas Discharge Tube Collaborative Optimization

Abstract Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) feature high voltage, high impedance, and low current characteristics, necessitating power management strategies to enhance their energy conversion efficiency. Among existing approaches, spark discharge switches offer superior efficiency improvement. However, due to the inherent contradiction between the fixed breakdown voltage threshold of spark switches, the high‐entropy energy output of TENGs (with uncertain amplitude/phase), and the voltage attenuation caused by long‐term wear, there is an urgent need to break through the predicament of threshold setting to further tap its potential in improving energy harvesting efficiency. This study proposes a peak‐tracking and dual gas discharge tube (P‐DG) coordinated control power management circuit (PMC). This circuit achieves impedance matching, self‐adaptively tracks the TENG voltage peak, and precisely controls switch conduction at the peak voltage point, enabling highly efficient energy transfer. Compared to operation without power management (W/O), the proposed circuit enhances the TENG's average power output by 72.46 times. Furthermore, it can adapt the peak power output according to specific environmental requirements. This work provides an efficient TENG energy management solution integrating theoretical innovation with engineering practicality.
