Validation and Modification of the Voice Problem Impact Scales into Arabic Language

Background: Understanding a patient’s perspective and experience with voice problems is essential for assessing their quality of life and the severity of the disorder. The Voice Problem Impact Scale (VPIS) is a newly developed instrument that aims to measure these perspectives. This study aims to develop the Arabic version of the VPIS (A-VPIS) and test its validity and reliability. Materials and Methods: The A-VPIS was developed and tested alongside the Arabic Voice Handicap Index-10 on a total of 130 individuals who participated in this study, including 10 piloted, 63 patients in the voice disorder group, and 67 subjects in the healthy control group. Statistical analyses were conducted to assess validity and reliability. Results: The A-VPIS demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranged from r = 0.817 to r = 0.89), with an overall value of r = 0.957. Conclusion: The A-VPIS exhibits strong internal consistency and reliability, making it a valuable tool for assessing the impact of voice disorders on patients’ quality of life across various situations and enhancing current assessment questionnaires.
