Construction of Acid and Salt Resistance Poly (Aromatic Ether Sulfone) Materials via Actively Capturing Cations Driven by Cation‐π Interactions

ABSTRACT Poly (aromatic ether sulfone) (PES), a critical material in specialty engineering plastics, faces increasing demands for acid and salt resistance due to its specialized applications, yet its rapid advancement is hindered by conventional complex production processes and high costs. This work presents a versatile design strategy for developing a new PES material (PESIN) with superior acid and salt resistance through the active capture of cation‐π interactions between cations and polymer chains. PESIN can actively absorb hydrogen ions and metal cations in acidic and saline environments to form cation‐π interactions. This strengthens intermolecular forces, enhancing the material's mechanical and thermal properties. This unique mechanism enables a breakthrough in PES's acid and salt resistance, potentially expanding its applications and offering new avenues for developing high‐performance engineering plastics.
