Enhancing Network Decision-Making: A Bottom-Up Approach to Power Line Communication

Urban infrastructures in Europe are in urgent need of efficient electricity management to address the ongoing energy crisis. Therefore, we introduced a system that leverages existing power line communication to optimize energy distribution. The system features a user-friendly interface for network configuration adjustments and a method to determine the optimal placement of the fewest possible concentrators, thereby minimizing costs. By applying transmission line theory and the two-port network model, we calculated signal attenuations using ABCD matrices employing a state-of-the-art algorithm to ensure effective coverage across the entire network. While it takes time to achieve optimal results, particularly in large networks, the developed system promptly satisfies the essential requirement for reliable power distribution to critical services. Moreover, it enables smart city development by ensuring the overall resilience of urban electrical networks.
