Rehabilitation effectiveness of an RC beam member with severe corroded longitudinal bars using patch repair and CFRP sheets/strip plates

The effectiveness of the patch repair materials and patch repair methods that are used commonly is experimentally investigated in this work. Additionally, for the reinforced concrete (RC) beam members with severe corroded longitudinal bars, besides of the patch repair, the retrofitting work should be implemented for the recovery of the loading resistance. Therefore, this work designs three kinds of experiment related to the mechanical properties of patch repair materials, the treatment of the interface between the patch repair material and the base concrete, and mechanical behavior of the severely corroded RC beam specimens after the patch repair and retrofit. For the specimens with severe corrosion of the longitudinal bars, since their loading resistance decreases, besides of the patch repair, steel complementation and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) are used to retrofit them. Furthermore, for the convenience of site construction, this work focuses on the rehabilitation effectiveness of the retrofit methods using CFRP sheets/strip plates. Finally, the procedure of the patch repair and CFRP retrofit for the RC beam members with the severe corroded longitudinal bars is provided as a reference for engineers.
