Hydrogen production <i>via</i> alcohol oxidation using a mixed conductive graphene oxide membrane reactor
The efficient production of pure hydrogen remains a critical challenge beyond energy-intensive steam reforming. We report a cerium-intercalated, partially reduced graphene oxide (Ce-prGO) membrane with mixed proton-electron conductivity that acts as a voltage-free reactor for hydrogen generation. Ce-prGO enables alcohol oxidation on one side of the membrane, while protons and electrons permeate and recombine into high-purity H2 on the opposite side. Our findings establish graphene-based mixed-conductive membranes as a sustainable platform for CO2-free hydrogen production from renewable feedstocks.
