MONUMENTS OF THE ZAGAYTANSKAYA ROCK: ON THE PROBLEM OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ARCHAEOLOGICAL REALITIES AND STATE REGISTRATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES
The Zagaytanskaya Rock is one of the southwestern spurs of the Inkerman Heights (the western spur of the Mekenziev Mountains massif) in the South-Western Crimea. On the territory of the mountain massif there are several archaeological sites. During heritage conservation efforts in the 20th century, they were grouped into three complexes, now known as the «Zagaytanskoe Fortified Settlement», «Taurians Settlement № 5 and Refuge» and «Medieval Cave Monastery». Despite the fact that the certification of these sites had been carried out since the late 1940s, they were only officially registered as archaeological monuments of Sevastopol in 1975. The article examines the process and specificities of their designation as archaeological heritage sites of federal significance. A corpus of archival materials, bibliographic heritage records and legal regulations was analyzed, which made it possible to identify differences between archaeological realities and cultural heritage site listed in the state register.
