Determinants of discrimination in access to land ownership in Burkina Faso
This article analyzes the determinants of discrimination in access to land ownership in Burkina Faso. It is based on a sample of 2747 farmers from the database of the National Program of Land Management, collected from July to August 2017, and the decomposition of Blinder and Oaxaca. The analysis reveals that young women and widows living in less-watered, climatic zones and subject to customary religious practices are discriminated against in terms of access to land ownership. These results suggest that the framework for implementing legislation promoting inclusive access to land ownership for women, particularly younger women and widows, needs to be strengthened.
