Proximal Radial Artery Ligation for High-Flow Arteriovenous Fistula Heart Failure: A Case Report
In high-flow arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are a known complication in hemodialysis patients, often leading to significant cardiovascular strain. This report details a successful alternative surgical method when traditional approaches fail.A 58-year-old male with a radiocephalic AVF developed heart failure. An initial surgery to reduce venous outflow was unsuccessful. The surgical plan was then changed to ligate the proximal radial artery. This procedure successfully decreased the AVF flow and significantly improved the patient's heart function. This case suggests that proximal artery ligation is a viable and effective option for managing high-flow AVFs.
