Interprofessional Collaboration in Dialysis Access Care after KDOQI 2019: Emerging Evidence
Effective hemodialysis vascular access management relies on interprofessional communication (IPC) among nephrologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and dialysis nurses. The 2019 KDOQI guidelines emphasized shared decisionmaking (SDM) and multidisciplinary collaboration as key to patientcentered care. This review explores the evolution of SDM and IPC in dialysis access, their impact on outcomes, efficiency, and ethics, and compares Western and Korean contexts. It also highlights the growing role of telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital monitoring in addressing systemic and regional disparities, underscoring structured communication and teamwork as foundations for safe, equitable vascular access care.
