Exploiting Space Diversity for Multiuser Detection in Underwater Optical Camera Communication

Underwater optical communication represents a technologically viable approach for efficient data transmission. However, inherent limitations such as multipath propagation, attenuation and scattering remain crucial impairments to be necessarily addressed. Recently, underwater optical camera communication (UOCC) has risen as a candidate technology to reliably perform signal detection. In this regard, we investigate image segmentation and spatial diversity combined in a UOCC system to reliably achieve multiuser detection. By referring to a preliminary case with 2 transmitting sources, we provide some numerical results demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed approach, to be potentially extended to more complex multiuser scenarios as well.
