Combined high and low cycle fatigue life prediction model based on miner’s rule

Purpose This paper proposes a combined high and low cycle fatigue (CCF) life prediction model. Design/methodology/approach Although the Miner’s rule considers damage from high cycle fatigue (HCF) and low cycle fatigue (LCF), it does not account for the coupled damage between HCF and LCF. Based on Miner’s rule, this paper proposes a coupled damage model that considers the loading strength through the relationship between tensile strength and stress amplitude. To verify the model, its predictions for eight materials are compared with four models. Findings Data analysis shows that the proposed model has superior predictive capabilities and is more suitable for predicting CCF life. Practical implications Aeronautical materials are frequently subjected to combined high and low cycle fatigue (CCF) during practical applications, which can lead to fatigue failure and serious accidents. The proposed model can more accurately predict fatigue life under CCF to reduce the risk of accidents. Originality/value The proposed model can enhance the accuracy of the CCF life predictions by using loading data, which are relatively easy to obtain.
