Dynamic properties of loess improved by nano-MgO and hydrated lime under humidification conditions

This study investigates how nano-MgO enhances the dynamic properties of lime-stabilized loess, a soil prone to weakening when moistened. Under simulated humidification, the addition of nano-MgO significantly improved the soil's performance: cumulative strain decreased by up to 30.7%, dynamic elastic modulus increased by up to 32.9%, and damping ratio was reduced by up to 19.4%. The high surface activity of nano-MgO accelerates lime-soil reactions, forming a more robust matrix that binds soil particles and fills pores, thereby improving moisture resistance. These findings demonstrate a filler-based strategy for ground improvement, offering a promising approach to mitigate rainfall-induced subsidence and enhance infrastructure stability in loess regions.
