THE EFFECT OF AN OSCILLATING VORTEX GENERATOR ON FLUID FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS AROUND A HEATED BLOCK
In this study, the impact of an oscillating vortex generator on the fluid flow within a channel and the heat transfer from a heated block was investigated using a numerical method. The governing equations were solved using the finite volume method, which was performed with commercial ANSYS software. The Reynolds number, dimensionless oscillation frequency, and dimensionless oscillation amplitude are the parameters investigated in this study. The findings showed an increase in the friction factor in the presence of the oscillating vortex generator (OVG), a decrease in the friction factor with increasing Reynolds number, and a significant increase in the friction factor as the oscillation amplitude increased, documented at up to 291%. Additionally, findings indicated that operating an oscillating vortex generator at optimal conditions can improve heat transfer by up to 97%. Moreover, the increase in oscillation amplitude and Reynolds number causes enhancements in heat transfer. To comprehensively estimate the overall influence of the oscillating vortex generator on flow structure and heat transfer, performance evaluation criteria were applied, yielding a maximum value of 1.4510.
