Occurrence of an Endangered Red Goshawk and other diurnal raptors at desert claypans following significant rainfall
The Endangered Red Goshawk is considered mainland Australia’s rarest bird of prey and is typically found in the northern tropics. Following a significant rainfall event in central Australia, a juvenile Red Goshawk was observed using desert claypans over an extended period. This rare sighting, along with a large diversity of raptors, highlights the conservation value of ephemeral wetlands for supporting birdlife in the arid zone.
