To Be Thick or Not Too Thick: Influence of the FAPbBr 3 Perovskite Thickness on Light Utilization Efficiency of Semitransparent Perovskite Solar Cells

In this study, we assess global metrics including Average Visible Transmittance, Light Utilization Efficiency, and Color Rendering Index by systematically varying the thickness of 3D-FAPbBr3 perovskite up to 840 nm. This analysis assists the design of semitransparent perovskite solar cells for Building-Integrated Photovoltaics and tandems. State-of-the-art devices, exhibiting a Voc of 1.64 V and power conversion efficiency of 9.1% for a 580 nm-thick FAPbBr3 absorber, underscore the critical role of thickness control in balancing the optoelectronic characteristics of the perovskite layer, PV performance, and aesthetic. Such optimization enables maximization of Light Utilization Efficiency while maintaining an Average Visible Transmittance above 50%.
