Study on Technology and Reproduction of Qing Dynasty Red Sandalwood Inlaid Glass with Double-Happiness Pattern Lantern Enamel Painted Tassel in the Palace Museum

Red sandalwood (Zitan) inlaid glass with double-happiness pattern square folding corner hanging lantern was originally placed in Shoukang Palace, because of the double-happiness pattern, speculated to be used in the wedding celebration of the emperor. The lantern was originally decorated with 8 painted enamel tassel, the overall dust, the silk fabric curled, and two tassels are missing affected the display effect, so it needs to be maintained and copied. In this study, microscope and X-ray optical spectrometer were used to observe the process and material detection of the metal and enamel of the painted enamel lamp brand. The results showed that: Using copper zinc alloy (brass) to make bat accessories; The enamel brand uses a higher purity copper metal (copper) to make a painting enamel, and the black enamel coloring element in the enamel material is manganese; Red is iron; Blue is cobalt; The white substrate contains an opacifying agent containing arsenic; The red happy characters are lined around the gold tracing process, and similar materials of the same specification are used when copying. This restoration combines modern science and technology with traditional craft practice to solve the two technical difficulties of double-sided plate gold production techniques and painted enamel pink color, which provides reference for the restoration and research of painted enamel cultural relics in the future.
