Place-making in Community Museums

Community museums play an important role in the retention of place under the background of modernization and urbanization. However, the majority of previous research shows a lack of concern about the significance and function of community museums from the perspective of “place”. Based on the Place Theory, this paper tries to build a place-making mode consisting of the building of place character and sense of place, and figure out the typical place-making mode of community museums, mainly including shaping the place characters through local narratives and building a sense of place through “place-ballet”, based on an analysis of the Shijia Hutong Museum. The aim of this research is to bring ideas and references for the community museums to better perform the function of the retention of place.
