Genel (Tek Dilli) Sözlüklerde Özel Adları Tanımlama Tipolojisi
This study aims to examine comparatively how proper names (place, person, institution, etc.) are defined in general (monolingual) dictionaries in Turkish, English, German and French. A definition is a systematic statement describing the qualities of a concept and which words to include in dictionaries is one of the main research areas of lexicography. The issue of whether proper names should be included in dictionaries or encyclopedic sources requires a comprehensive evaluation in terms of dictionary typologies. The way proper names are defined is influenced by contexts such as language, history and culture. In this context, it is important not only to specify the names but also to provide additional information of cultural or social value. In this study, the definitions of proper names and their relationship with encyclopedic knowledge will be evaluated based on Oxford Learner's Dictionaries, Duden, Académie française and Türk Dil Kurumu Current Turkish Dictionary. The findings are expected to contribute to dictionary design processes.
