Türkiye'de Yaygın Gazetelerin Habercilik Pratikleri: İçerik Türleri ve Siyasi Haberlere Yaklaşım
Journalism plays a central role in the process of informing societies. Globally and in Turkey, newspapers' approaches to reporting, the types of content they publish, and their political orientations have significant impacts on media consumption and public opinion formation. Commercial media organizations tend to diversify their content in order to appeal to broader audiences. From a news perspective, a notable difference emerges between delivering information that attracts public interest and providing content that serves the public good. In Turkey, newspapers predominantly publish political news. Academic studies have shown that election-related news is frequently presented using biased language and within an ideological framework. This tendency dates back to the early years of Turkey’s transition to a multi-party system and becomes especially prominent during election periods. In this study, in an era where online and social media journalism increasingly overshadows print media, the daily issues of 20 widely circulated newspapers in Turkey were examined over a one-week period using content analysis. The study analyzed the distribution of news types and political news content. Findings reveal that media content in Turkey is shaped by ideological and political biases. Newspapers display clear differentiation in the themes they emphasize and in the ways they represent political actors. It was particularly observed that future-oriented themes such as the environment, education, agriculture, and science are often relegated to the background.
