Algerian Revolution (1954–1962) as a Unique Model For Liberation Movements in the Modern Era

This study offers a historical and analytical examination of the systemic violations endured by theAlgerian people under French colonial rule. The colonial regime employed extensive material andpsychological repression to suppress aspirations for liberation from subjugation and exploitation. Theconsequences of such oppression were profound, resulting in significant human losses, includingcountless martyrs, as well as the widespread suffering of widows, orphans, and individuals withpermanent disabilities. Despite the severe repercussions of colonial violence—and recognizing that thepursuit of freedom and the reclamation of dignity justified immense sacrifice—the Algerian responseremained resolute. Revolutionary leaders effectively mobilized resistance, challenging and ultimatelyovercoming colonial domination. Through sustained struggle, they successfully undermined Frenchcolonial strategies, compelling the occupying power to concede defeat and withdraw, marked byirrevocable political and symbolic humiliation. Keywords: Repressive Measures, Colonial Failure, National Liberation Army, Submission,Restoration of Dignity
