Yavru Bir Köpekte Travmatik Os Parietale Kırığına Bağlı Beyin Hasarı
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is frequently seen in small animals due to different etiologies. A three-month-old, female, Kangal mixed breed puppy was brought to our clinics due to swelling in the head region and neurological symptoms caused by an attack by another dog. Clinical and neurological examinations determined that the dog had difficulty walking, loss of proprioception and vision problems. The dog, which was thought to have developed TBI, had a modified glasgow coma scale (MGCS) of 12/18. Ultrasonographic and radiological examinations and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed a fracture in the parietal bone, as well as oedema and hematoma in the brain tissue. Since the dog owner did not accept surgical treatment, the patient was treated medically. The dog's recovery process was monitored through regular neurological examinations. The dog regained first proprioception and then walking function, and its vision and motor functions returned completely to normal after six months. This case report demonstrates that positive outcomes can be achieved in young patients with TBI through early diagnosis, regular follow-up, assessment and appropriate medical management.
