Exploring novel fillers A 2 SiO 2 in self-healing epoxy polysulfide coatings
Self-healing epoxy polysulfide coating has been developed using Allantoin Amino Silica (A 2 SiO 2 ) as an innovative filler, synthesized through innovative condensation polymerization and ultrasonication. Four dynamic formulations, featuring 3%, 5%, 10%, and 20% A 2 SiO 2 , were created, showcasing the potential of modern materials. The coatings (APY and A 2 SiO 2 ) were characterized with a robust array of techniques, including Particle Size Analysis, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (Py GC-MS), Flow Injection Mass Spectrometry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H NMR), and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Remarkably, the 10% A 2 SiO 2 formulation emerged as the champion, improving abrasion resistance by 61.6% compared to the control, while maintaining tensile properties with minimal reduction in elongation and offering the highest wear resistance. This remarkable coating also displayed a contact angle greater than 90°, affirming its enhanced hydrophobicity. All formulations achieved an inspiring average self-healing rate of 86% at 50 °C after just 24 h.
