MAḤMÛD ḤASAN EL-CÂSİM VE NAẒARÂT LÂ TAʿRİFU’L-ḤAYÂʾ ADLI ROMANI ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Maḥmūd Ḥasan al-Jāsim (b. 1966), one of the leading figures of modern Arabic literature, is a Syrian writer known especially for his works on the basic fields of Arabic language, especially on the subjects of sarf and nahw. Starting in 2014, al-Jāsim began writing novels, and in a short period of time, he became well-known in literary circles and was included in the award lists with his novels. In his novels, al-Jāsim presents an in-depth perspective on the civil war in Syria and the political and social structure of the country, and has reached a wide readership by dealing with these themes with literary language and narrative mastery. His novel Naẓarāt Lā Taʿrif al-Ḥayāʾ is one of his important works in this context. In this study, an in-depth analysis of the novel in terms of style and content has been made. The structural elements of the novel are discussed with the method of textual analysis; the language, style and narrative techniques of the work are analyzed and interpreted through examples. In this work, Maḥmūd Ḥasan al-Jāsim skillfully reflects the political events and social life that took place in Syria between 1989-1994 with a literary style by centering the narrative shaped around the mental crises and inner conflicts of the protagonist Ḥāzim as a result of the accident. The author, who includes a large cast of characters in his novel, adopts a simple style without compromising simplicity and comprehensibility in his language. In addition, by strengthening the depth and layered structure of the narrative with various narrative techniques used in his work, he has succeeded in creating a strong impact on the reader. In this study, the plot of the novel, the cast of characters, the time and place where the events take place, and the used narrative techniques are analyzed in detail, and the language and style of the author are discussed. The novel is not only a literary work, but also a politically important text as it offers a detailed analysis of the political and social structure of Syria. This novel, which has a fluent and gripping structure, constitutes a successful example of blending historical and social issues with a literary narrative in modern Arabic literature.
