Abstract

Background: The CONNECT CRC is a ERS wide network (n=978 from 87 countries) focused on implementing digital respiratory healthcare. It aims to promote exchange of research ideas, knowledge, and undertake respiratory implementation research. The impact of network membership has not been explored. Methods: An online survey was developed to collect demographic information and research experience using the Spider instrument (1). 856 clinical members were sent a link to the survey with 2 reminders. Results: Of the 95 CONNECT members from 31 countries, 68 (72%) joined the CONNECT network to network with others working in digital health, 48 (51%) to gain research experience and 46 (48%) to learn about digital health. Most had some research experience. Members highlighted gaps in their knowledge - health economics, implementation research, qualitative research and applying for funding. The main barrier to using technology in clinical practice was funding to guide testing/implementation (n=50). 52% reported positively that being part of the network helped them, Conclusions: Members joined the network to foster research specifically in respiratory digital health, and to explore the concept of digital health. The network attracted both researchers and clinicians with broad and complimentary experiences. Gaining knowledge and skills was a key motivator for joining CONNECT, suggesting that network leaders should actively identify areas for development to ensure that members are supported to share, learn and participate.
