Cu 2 XSnS 4 (X = Mg, Ba, Sr, Fe, Mn, Co, Ni, and Cd) for Visible‐Light‐Induced Photocatalytic Applications

ABSTRACT Recently, there has been a significant focus on the novel quaternary chalcogenide‐based semiconductor Cu 2 XSnS 4 (CXTS), where X represents a Group II or transition metal. These materials are attracting attention as promising, cost‐effective, and non‐toxic semiconductors comprised of earth‐abundant elements. In addition to their sustainability, CXTS offers further advantages, including the integration of non‐toxic and cost‐effective elements, making them appeal for various applications. This concise review covers the recent synthesis and development of CXTS. A comprehensive summary of the findings on the use of CXTS as photocatalysts for H 2 production and the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants has been compiled and discussed. This review also outlines the challenges faced and suggests future directions to address the issues impeding the advancement of CXTS.
